You should feel stupid using toothpaste. We are not dependant on toothpaste and our bodies never did "fight plaque". The only reason we need to brush our teeth while other animals don't is because of our indulgent sugary diets. Sugar, being the easist thing for bacteria to ingest means bacteria grow at massive rates on our teeth, therefore causing 100 times more damage than what they would've had we just lived of the stuff we used to.
