Creed had some pretty dang good songs and Nickelback's first album was pretty good but their newer stuff is a joke. Mainstream rock these days definitely sucks as a whole. You have to find independent bands or just lesser known bands to find the good stuff.

im totally with you, but you have to understand that alternative is not one sound like folk, metal, and punk generally follow but is instead the experimental genre, but still close enough to the set standards. thats how it started anyway. now, i doubt that "alternative" is still alternative

I don't think that Toadies sounds that much like Pixies. I don't want to sound like an expert, but Pixies are my favorite band, and Toadies are my second favorite band. They each have their own unique sound that hasn't been repeated again. Also, Toadies last two albums sound absolutely nothing like anything Pixies have ever done :)
